Our client, a heritage manufacturing company in the Chicago metropolitan area, is looking for a Business Development Executive to join their ranks. This is a remote opportunity (preferably located in the Midwest) where candidates must spend time traveling to customer sites and offers an amazing chance to work with one of the most recognized names in precision gear manufacturing.

The Role: Business Development Executive-Chicago Business Jobs 2025

You will be a growth driver as the Business Development Executive, identifying and acquiring new business opportunities in industrial markets. This is a strategic sales position with high visibility, requiring technical proficiency, strong people skills, and a hunter mindset.

You will have the responsibility of growing the company’s presence in the Midwest and wider North American markets, with emphasis on new customer acquisition as well as strategic account development. The preferred candidate has extensive technical expertise in gear manufacturing and knows how to match intricate, engineered products with customer-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Execution:
Create and implement detailed sales plans consistent with company growth objectives. Actively pursue and qualify new sales prospects within targeted markets.

Customer Engagement:
Foster long-term, close relationships through direct customer visits, telephone/video calls, and regular consultation. Recognize client issues and suggest customized technical solutions.

Technical Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with engineering groups to convert client requirements into producible gear solutions. Have the ability to decipher technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

Presentations & Proposals:
Make effective presentations to technical and executive-level customers. Create and present comprehensive quotations, pricing offers, and contract conditions.

Territory Management:
Prioritize and manage sales activity throughout a multi-state territory with high-value targets. Plan and conduct 50–70% travel, attending on-site meetings, trade shows, and industry events.

CRM & Reporting:
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all sales activity in the company’s CRM system. Regularly report on pipeline development, opportunity status, and forecasted revenue.

Who We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical technology, or a related technical discipline

10+ years of experience in technical sales roles, preferably in gear or gearbox manufacturing

3–5 years of direct experience selling custom-engineered gears or similar high-precision components

In-depth industry knowledge and strong success record in sectors like Oil & Gas, Mining, Construction, Rail, Marine, Defense, Medical, or Renewable Energy

Willingness to travel up to 70% to see customers and participate in industry conferences and events

Proposal development, quotation presentation, and solution-selling skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present technical information to non-technical listeners

History of success in achieving or surpassing sales performance targets

Preferred Skills:

Experience in reverse engineering and gearbox overhaul markets

Knowledge of AGMA specifications and special gear production processes

CRM skills (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalents)

Sound analytical thought and problem-solving skills

Self-disciplined, motivated, and able to work remotely with little supervision
