Primary Purpose of the Job
Qatar Energy is on an ambitious digital journey to shape the future of energy operations, both in Qatar and beyond. As the Head of Digital Technology, you will assume a pivotal leadership role in shaping and driving this transformation. You will be expected to lead the conception, development, and implementation of innovative digital solutions that enhance operational performance, improve safety standards, and unlock new sources of business value across QatarEnergy’s operations.
The selected candidate will be at the helm of the multidisciplinary teams focused on Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Automation to ensure such technologies are put in place with strategic alignment to QatarEnergy’s mission in achieving excellence, efficiency, and sustainability within the energy sector. You will work closely with business leaders, operational departments, IT professionals, and international technology partners to deliver state-of-the-art digital solutions that drive tangible results. As a champion of Agile methodologies, you will foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, enabling teams to adopt rapid prototyping and iterative delivery methods that bring high-impact solutions into being faster. Your leadership will set the tone for digital excellence throughout the organization and ensure QatarEnergy remains at the forefront of technological innovation within the global energy industry.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Digital Leadership:
Lead in the development and implementation of QatarEnergy’s strategy on digital technologies in a way that aligns with corporate objectives and business priorities. Define the long-term vision for a digital transformation, including data-driven decision-making, automation, artificial intelligence, and cloud-enabled operations.
Program Delivery and Execution:
Oversee the end-to-end delivery of large-scale digital programs across QatarEnergy’s upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. Ensure the execution of initiatives is within scope, budget, and schedule while delivering measurable business outcomes and operational improvements.
Innovation and Emerging Technologies:
Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies like IoT, advanced analytics, machine learning, and cybersecurity solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and safety. Foster innovation by partnering with academia, startups, and technology providers.
Agile Transformation:
Establish and promote Agile ways of working within digital teams and business units. Drive the adoption of Agile methodologies to accelerate innovation, enable faster delivery cycles, and cultivate an adaptive mindset across the organization.
Data and Cloud Strategy:
Lead the design and implementation of QatarEnergy’s enterprise data and cloud architecture. Champion scalable cloud-first solutions that enable secure, reliable, and efficient data storage, analysis, and accessibility across the organization.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build strong relationships with executive leadership, business line heads, and operational teams in order to ensure that digital initiatives are fully integrated into the business strategy. Act as a trusted advisor to senior management by offering insights into technology trends and their potential impact.
Change Management and Adoption:
Drive cultural transformation through digital adoption, creating an environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. Enable the workforce to adopt new technologies and digital tools through focused training, communication, and change management programs.
Vendor and Partner Management:
Oversee the strategic relationships with global technology vendors, consultants, and service providers to ensure that external partners deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and sustainable digital solutions, meeting QatarEnergy’s standards and business objectives.
Financial Stewardship:-
Oversee the budget for digital technologies, ensuring the proper allocation of resources. Evaluate the investment in digital through robust ROI and performance measures that balance innovation with fiscal responsibility.
Cybersecurity and Risk Management:
Collaborate with cybersecurity and IT governance teams to ensure that all digital solutions are aligned with QatarEnergy’s information security frameworks and risk management policies. Promote data privacy, system integrity, and resilience across digital platforms.
Required Experience and Skills-Latest Qatar Data Job 2025
Strategic Leadership:
Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience related to the Oil & Gas industry in operations, production, maintenance, engineering, drilling & wells, reservoir, and geosciences. Of this, at least 6 years must be in digital transformation leadership roles leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-scale initiatives.
Agile Delivery:
Proven experience in leading digital teams and programs using Agile and DevOps methodologies, with demonstrated success in rapid prototyping, iterative solution development, and delivering measurable business results.
Digital Innovation:
Proven experience in managing large-scale digital programs, including Data Analytics, AI, Machine Learning, and Cloud solutions, preferably in the energy or industrial sector. Translates emerging technologies into practical applications to drive tangible business value.
Change Management:
Proven ability to drive organizational change by fostering digital adoption and a culture of innovation. Competent in leading teams through transitional phases, stakeholder expectation management, and building consensus across diverse functions.
Business Impact:
Proven track record of identifying and delivering high-impact digital initiatives with quantifiable business outcomes, such as cost optimization, production enhancement, predictive maintenance, or safety improvement.
Financial Acumen:
Experience in budgeting for digital transformation, evaluating technology investment options, and vendor management. Demonstrated analytical competency to evaluate business cases to ensure alignment with financial and strategic goals.
Industry Insight:
Deep understanding of the digital landscape in energy, including IoT, automation, cybersecurity, AI ethics, and sustainability. To understand the best practices globally in digital operations and asset management.
Collaboration & Communication:
Proven interpersonal and leadership skills that appeal to and help inspire others throughout all levels of the organization. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, in written and verbal form, to facilitate presentations to executive boards and external partners.
Educational Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Oil & Gas, Energy Management, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and extensive relevant experience (15+ years) will also be considered.
Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or a Ph.D. are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in digital and technical domains.
Professional certification in Digital Transformation, Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Agile, or Scrum will be an added advantage.
