Position Summary: Kitchen Mechanic
The Kitchen Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence with all kitchen equipment and systems throughout the hotel. This position ensures that all culinary area mechanical, electrical, gas, and plumbing installations function properly, safely, and in conformance with Four Seasons’ high standards.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering or the Assistant Engineering Manager, the Kitchen Mechanic interacts directly with the culinary team and all other departments to ensure a seamless guest experience through reliable, well-maintained kitchen operations.
The role requires an industrious professional, proud of their work, who pays close attention to details, is able to team up well, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will boast strong technical capabilities, an adherence to safety, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical problems efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance, repair, and inspection of all kitchen equipment and systems, including gas lines, fire suppression systems, ventilation units, and electrical outlets.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance according to the set schedules to ensure that appliances, refrigeration units, dishwashers, ovens, fryers, and other culinary equipment function properly.
- Inspect and maintain all associated pipework, plumbing, and drainage systems within kitchen areas.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions; replace defective components and calibrate thermostatic and electronic controls as needed.
- Monitor gas detection panels and make sure all safety valves and emergency shut-off systems are operational to meet fire and safety code requirements.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and logs, detailing work performed, materials used, and time spent.
- Assist the Engineering Department in maintaining all systems that support the operations of the kitchen, to include HVAC, water supply, and waste management.
- Respond to guest and staff inquiries in a timely and courteous manner regarding maintenance issues. Ensure all issues are resolved in an efficient manner to minimize disruption.
- Attend daily engineering briefings and report progress, challenges, and urgent repairs, if needed.
- Ensure the engineering workshop and any other assigned work areas are kept clean, safe, and tidy.
- Support and cooperate with the culinary, housekeeping, and engineering departments to maintain the operational standards of the hotel.
- Estimate the time, materials, and equipment needed for tasks assigned and requisition materials accordingly.
- Adhere strictly to all hotel policies, procedures, and rules regarding health, hygiene, and safety.
- Perform electrical installations to support new kitchen layouts, exhibitions, or other temporary arrangements that hotel operations may require.
- Attend training programs to enhance technical skills and maintain up-to-date knowledge on kitchen maintenance and engineering best practices.
- Perform emergency repairs and respond to maintenance calls outside regular working hours as needed.

- Support other engineering projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
- Desired Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment maintenance, including gas, electric, and mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance programs and record keeping.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults in a range of kitchen appliances.
- Working knowledge of fire suppression systems, gas detection panels, and safety protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration systems.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and dedication to upholding the highest standards of operation.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed by hotel operation.
- Physical ability to use tools, lift equipment, and work in confined or elevated areas when required.
Qualifications and Experience-Good Food Jobs
Diploma or certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or any related technical field.
A minimum of 2–4 years of experience as a Kitchen Mechanic, Maintenance Technician, or similar position, preferably within a luxury hotel or large-scale hospitality operation.
Proven experience working with gas and electrically powered kitchen appliances.
Familiarity with Saudi Arabian safety regulations and building codes is a plus.
Proficiency in English is required; fluency in Arabic is an asset, although not a requirement.
Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is desirable.
