This opportunity is genuinely unique to work collaboratively between UWE Bristol’s Research and External Engagement (REE) Division and the Bristol City Office, assisting with the city’s shared vision to make Bristol better.
As a Data Analyst and Insights professional, you’ll be at the heart of UWE Bristol’s Civic and Inclusivity agenda, shaping the way data is collected, interpreted, and used to measure social impact across both the University and the City Office.
Your contribution will assist in assessing the impact of Bristol’s civic partnerships and tracking progress against common aims, providing assurance that insights inform actions leading to real benefits for communities throughout the city.

REE’s Civic and Inclusivity team designs and implements projects that increase social worth, foster inclusive growth, and generate opportunities for everyone. Their activities link students, staff, communities, and partners in a manner that achieves real-world change through community involvement, voluntary action, and enterprise-led social innovation.
Working closely with the Bristol City Office, you will have a key role in ensuring not only that data is effectively managed but also interpreted meaningfully to drive decision-making and show results.
The City Office, based at Bristol City Council, has responsibility for delivering the Bristol One City Plan – a collaborative, cross-sector initiative that brings together public, private, voluntary, and academic partners to deliver a shared vision of a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable city by 2050.
Your work will assist both institutions in monitoring, assessing, and reporting on progress toward these city missions, which include:
Shaping an inclusive economy,
Developing equal life opportunities for young people and children,
Building stronger communities, and
Pursuing climate and nature recovery and resilience.
Main duties
As a diverse and dynamic role, you will:
Oversee the gathering, handling, and analysis of data on the success of UWE Bristol’s civic engagement and the One City goals of the Bristol City Office.
Develop and maintain robust data systems to ensure accuracy, transparency, and consistency in evidence gathering across multiple projects and partnerships.
Design evaluation frameworks that measure social impact, outcomes, and long-term benefits for communities, in line with UWE’s RISE agenda and the City Office’s overarching objectives.
Collaborate with academic, civic, business, and community partners, providing specialist advice and insights that inform policy decisions and strategic planning.
Translate intricate data into clear stories, developing engaging reports, dashboards, and visualisation that illustrate improvement and identify areas for action.
Help shape evidence-based policy advice, guaranteeing that data insights influence University and city-level decision-making.
Collaborate with senior REE and City Office leaders to track performance, measure outcomes, and deliver regular impact reports to internal and external audiences.
Promote good data governance practices, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and ethical research standards.
Support capacity building by training colleagues and partners in effective data use, evaluation methods, and impact measurement techniques.
This is a role that blends technical skill with strategic thinking, collaboration, and creativity. You’ll work at the intersection of academia, civic engagement, and city policy, using your analytical expertise to support initiatives that genuinely improve people’s lives.
About you
We are looking for a self-motivated, collaborative professional who is as passionate about civic engagement and social impact as they are about data and evidence. You’ll have the confidence to work across institutional boundaries and the curiosity to explore how data can reveal new insights about the city’s progress and challenges.

Demonstrated experience of data collection, management, analysis, and visualization, preferably in a research, policy, or civic environment.
A sound knowledge of impact evaluation and the capacity to interpret quantitative and qualitative data and convert it into actionable information.
Experience with cross-sector partnerships, preferably in the public, academic, or voluntary sectors.
Knowledge of Bristol’s community, public sector, and business, or the capacity to develop this quickly.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the capacity to present complex material in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
A problem-solving approach that is pro-active and collaborative, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Adherence to UWE Bristol and the City Office’s missions, underpinned by the values of equity, inclusion, and sustainability.
Experience of statistical packages (e.g., R, SPSS, or Python), visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI or Tableau), and qualitative analysis software would be a bonus, but we also want you to be able to interpret, challenge, and use data imaginatively and meaningfully.
