We are currently looking for a seasoned Software Engineer (Python) to add to our backend engineering team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in crafting high-performance APIs, enhancing our backend structure, and maintaining the scalability and reliability of our systems as we expand across several countries.
Role Overview
As a Backend Engineer (Python) at dubizzle, you will be developing, designing, and operating the backend systems behind our applications and services. You will be instrumental in evolving our development stack, making sure that our systems are scalable, efficient, and stable as we scale to millions of monthly active users.
This position requires hands-on experience in building and maintaining large-scale web applications and distributed systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams across product management, frontend engineering, mobile, and DevOps to deliver high-quality, production-ready software.

- Backend Development & API Design
Build, maintain, and optimize robust RESTful APIs and microservices using Python and Django.

Engage in system design discussions from conceptual development stages to production deployment.
Support the development cycle throughout sprints, offering backend technical expertise throughout planning, execution, and post-launch.
Participate in sprint reviews, retrospectives, and continuous improvement activities.
- Code Quality & Lifecycle Management
Use best practices of testing, version control, and CI/CD to provide stable software delivery.
Perform code reviews and insist on high coding standards across the team.
Have end-to-end lifecycle ownership—from design and concept to testing and deployment.
Keep thorough technical documentation for APIs, systems, and architecture diagrams.

Build systems with reliability as a fundamental aspect, focusing on fault tolerance and zero or near-zero downtime.
Implement robust logging, monitoring, and alerting technologies for prompt issue discovery.

Resolve and address production issues rapidly and efficiently.

Keep up with new Python frameworks, open-source utilities, and backend technologies.

Guide initiatives that encourage engineering excellence, technical innovation, and process optimization.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Professional Experience
At least 3 to 8 years of experience in hands-on backend software engineering.
Trained background with Python and Django frameworks for developing web applications.
Experience in API-based architectures like SOA or microservices for at least 1 year.
Background in developing and scaling high-traffic, large-scale web products.
Good understanding of distributed systems, performance optimization, and search infrastructure.
Trained experience handling the complete software development life cycle from idea to production.
Technical Competence
Programming: Strong grasp of Python, such as decorators, meta-classes, list comprehensions, descriptors, and mixins.
Frameworks: Knowledge of Django or other open-source Python frameworks.
Databases: Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL; experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) is a plus.
API Development: Deep understanding of REST concepts, API versioning, and documentation standards.
Infrastructure: Knowledge of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
Testing: Hands-on experience with unit testing, integration testing, and automated test frameworks.
Version Control: Knowledge of Git and collaborative environments.
